My name is Joe Whitsitt. Just this past year I lived and worked in Washington, DC but I didn’t want to call it home. Home is Iowa, where I was born and raised. I just moved back and convinced my bosses to let me work from home.
I graduated from the University of Iowa in May of 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography Environmental Studies. I would like to consider myself an environmentalist, but I really don’t fit the definition. Sure I think more about my effect on the environment than the average American, but besides scratchy recycled toilet paper, I don’t really go above and beyond. Really, I am just a energy consuming tech guru who likes to get back to ‘nature’ every once and a while.
My alumni association loves me. I was one of the few grads to get a job using my degree before I even graduated. The truth is, I don’t really use my degree every day and the alumni association didn’t find me the job. I work for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Geodetic Survey. In short, NOAA’s NGS. It is a great resume builder and is something secure until I actually figure out what I want to do with my life. I love web development and freelance when I can, but I worry about getting too much of a good thing.
In my free time, I like to dabble in the art of beer tasting, music, film, doodling, and cycling. In terms of what kind of cycling, let me just say this. I have gone from spandex speed and the University cycling team to fixie trackstand practice.
